We use language instinctively every day, yet we rarely stop to think about it. It was my curiosity surrounding the origin of the English language and how we acquire it, as well as the factors that influence language variation that naturally directed me to study English Language at the University of Manchester. There I studied modules such as child language acquisition and phonology, both of which required discipline, exploration and imagination.

After graduating in 2012, I began to volunteer in a local school which sparked my desire to teach as I had observed the powerful influence that the teachers were having on the pupils through their endless passion and drive to ensure each individual succeeded. Later that year, I successfully applied for a place on the prestigious Teach First program where I trained for two years in a Liverpool school, before qualifying with outstanding status. From the onset of my teaching career, I have been passionate about teaching and learning and consistently refining my pedagogy in order to provide my pupils with the necessary learning environment and skills to achieve their goals.

I am always striving to improve my professional practice, a testament to this being my decision to study for a master’s degree in Leadership in Education from the University of Manchester. This course allowed me to engage with current educational systems and challenges at a much deeper level and has developed and shaped my values as a teacher and leader.

In my spare time, I like to stay active through running and walking, exploring new places to do so whenever I can.  I am also an avid reader and enjoy the escapism that a good book can provide.

I truly believe that King’s is providing its pupils with the best possible education.  This is not simply due to the dedicated and hard working staff they employ, but also the values-led education they provide which ensures pupils leave the school as well-rounded, confident young adults to complement their academic success.
