Aaron Kiernan

Practitioner of P.E

The reason I became a PE teacher is to inspire, create a love for learning in sport and to show students there is no limit to what they can achieve. I believe PE and sport allows everyone to develop physically, socially, and mentally. This led me to study BA(Hons) Physical Education and PGCE at Leeds Beckett University.

Being born in Salford and growing up in Manchester, I have been surrounded by sport my whole life. Living close to Old Trafford during my upbringing has led me to be a huge football fan both playing and supporting the sport.

From 2011-2016 I was part of the England Karate team and travelled around the world competing in European and World Championships as well as K1 events and other international competitions. My greatest sporting achievement is winning the Common Wealth Championship in kumite (fighting) early in my career. I am also a Second Dan black belt and feel this has disciplined me throughout my personal and professional development. I have helped coach many national champions of all ages and been able to watch them progress and achieve. Another fun fact about myself is that I can do the nunchucks.

Apart from karate, my favourite sports are football, rugby league and boxing. My favourite teams are Manchester United, Salford Red Devils and Leeds Rhinos. Asking a PE teacher who their sporting legend is, is a tough question, but mine would have to be Mike Tyson, Manny Pacquiao and Arnold Schwarzenegger as they all have achieved phenomenal achievements within their lives and have motivated me to be the best I can be.
