Ever since I was young, I have always been fascinated by mathematics and how it is used in so many aspects of our lives. My passion for Math’s initially led me to complete an Accounting and Finance Degree at Durham University. Following this I worked as an accountant for 6 years, primarily focused in audit and assurance services. This also allowed me to work towards becoming an ICAEW Chartered Accountant. The opportunities that this presented allowed me to see the benefits that students can obtain from an understanding of math’s, and this drove me to pursue a career in Teaching. I proceeded to complete my Post Graduate Certificate in Education at Goldsmiths University. I am passionate that today’s students should be given every opportunity to achieve their desired goals and I am driven by the ability to unlock this potential. The skills that are developed in studying mathematics, from logical thinking to problem solving, play a huge role in creating tomorrow’s leaders.
I have a keen interest in sport, specifically football and rugby union. From playing these sports when I was younger, I have realised the character traits that these sports bring to young people, from teamwork and communication to professionalism, and confidence. These are the values that Kings imparts upon its pupils with the ASPIRE code. As I have gotten older I have become more interested in the math’s and science that lies behind these sports, from statistics allowing coaches to constantly improve their game, to finance changing the way in which leagues and clubs are ran. This allows me to show students how strongly mathematics is linked with so much in the outside world.
The professionalism and integrity of all staff and pupils at Kings allows the students to strive for success and to achieve incredible things, and I am extremely grateful to play a part in the journey that the students will take to prepare them for their future careers and flight paths.
