Courtney Young

Practitioner of Spanish

I grew up in a small village in the south of Norfolk and never had the opportunity to study languages until much later in my school years. I always loved the idea of learning languages, which instigated my love for travelling. I studied French and Spanish at A-Level which opened a variety of doors for me in terms of employment and universities. Eventually, I chose to attend the wonderful University of Liverpool and acquired a degree in Spanish, Catalan and Italian language and culture. During this time, I was lucky enough to live in the beautiful city Palma de Mallorca, where I became a language assistant in a Primary school and had the opportunity to improve my knowledge of the unique language Catalan. In seeing the amazing opportunities I could create for children by teaching them a language at primary level, when I returned I chose to start my PGCE in secondary education at Liverpool Hope University.

During my PGCE I studied to become a qualified teacher in both Spanish and French which also gave me time to reincite my love for French learning. Working in schools in Liverpool, I quickly realised that being a teacher in an incredibly enriching job and that teaching languages has the power to take students to any career path that they desire.

Now, as a Spanish practitioner in Kings Leadership Academy, I look forward to getting to know a new community in Woolston through promoting a love for languages as a skill for life. I hope to build strong character in all my students and help them achieve their high aspirations for their next step.
