After initially training as a bilingual secretary at Newcastle-upon-Tyne Polytechnic, I found myself working in an accounts department of a carpet manufacturer in my native north east. It was then that I realised that this was what I really wanted to do and I stayed there for 11 years, leaving as Accounts Department Supervisor.
After a career break to bring up my 2 children and a move to Oldham because of my husband’s job, I started working in school finance 24 years ago. I achieved the CSBM, DSBM and then a degree in School Business Management, followed by level 4 Accounting Technician and progressed through the ranks to the post of Business and Finance Director of a large academy.
I met Sir Iain Hall when he spent 2 terms at the academy just prior to the opening of King’s. I was really interested in what he was trying to achieve and when the opportunity came to work here I jumped at the chance. I am proud to be a part of the academy, working with an amazing team of staff and delightful students.
