Kyle Graham

Subject Lead for History & Head of Achievement

I am incredibly passionate about history and how it can explain the paths that the human race has taken to get to the present day. Learning about the lives of the people who came before us can help us to replicate and improve upon their strengths and avoid their mistakes. For young people history is fascinating and enables incredible opportunities for discussion and debate.

Having loved history from a very early age I eventually studied the subject at the University of Ulster in Coleraine and came out with First Class Honours, demonstrating my passion and dedication to the history. I studied a range of topics including witchcraft in Britain, Europe in the Early Modern period and modern world history. My dissertation topic was on the relations between America and Egyptian President Nasser during the Six Day War of 1967.

Teaching was something I wanted to do since I supervised some classes at school and really enjoyed the interaction with students and helping them learn. I am somebody who really enjoys helping people and this meant that teaching was a natural career choice following my degree and so I went straight into teaching after my degrees completion in July 2012.

I consider myself to be a passionate and creative teacher who prides himself on engagement and progression within his classroom. I want to make sure that every student who comes into my class enjoys the topics and progresses to an extent that allows the student to feel proud of their work. I encourage endeavour and pride amongst every student to set foot in my classroom.

I have several hobbies but the main two are sport and music. I am a very large football fan and have coached for a Northern Irish Premier League side’s under 11’s. I really enjoy the management and coaching aspect as again it allows me to really help people achieve and exceed their potential, much like in teaching. I am an avid musician who plays guitar, drums and bass and have performed in concerts as a guitarist, drummer, bassist and vocalist. I also love fantasy novels and my favourite authors are Robin Hobb and George R.R. Martin.

I am have massively enjoyed my time so far at King’s and promoting the inspiring values that are brought about from the ASPIRE ethos. The students at our school are an inspiration to me and their hard work drives me to produce the best lessons I possibly can every time I walk into the classroom. I am very excited to see our school continue to grow and prosper in the coming years.
