Why Study Dance at Kings?

At Kings, studying dance is a unique and enriching experience that goes beyond mere physical movement. What Will They Study at KS3?

At Key Stage 3, students will embark on a journey of dance exploration, laying the foundation for their future studies. The curriculum includes an array of dance forms such as street dance, jazz, ballet, hip hop, contemporary, and commercial styles , as well as gymnastics. Through engaging lessons, pupils will not only develop their fitness, strength, and flexibility but also hone their expressive, choreographic, and analytical skills. This stage serves as a crucial stepping stone, preparing students for the deeper dive into the AQA GCSE Dance program.

What Will They Study at KS4?

Key Stage 4 marks a more specialised and in-depth phase of the dance program at Kings. Aligned with the AQA GCSE Dance curriculum, students will continue to refine their technical, expressive, and performing skills across various genres. The emphasis shifts towards exploring professional dance works, learning from dance company pieces, and honing choreographic skills. Additionally, contemporary dance classes become a regular part of the curriculum, contributing to the development of students' dance technique. The skills cultivated during KS4 not only prepare students for the GCSE examination but also equip them with valuable life skills, including teamwork, problem-solving, and effective communication.
