Why Study Art?

At King’s Leadership Academy the Art department envisions a journey of self-discovery through artistic exploration. We believe that studying art is essential because it fosters inquisitive minds, encourages passionate expression, and empowers students to become independent, creative thinkers. Art is not just a subject; it is a gateway to understanding the world and oneself on a deeper level.

What Will You Study at KS3?

In Key Stage 3, students will embark on a rich artistic journey that revolves around the exploration of fundamental concepts. We aim to nurture their inquisitive minds by introducing them to a diverse range of artists and art forms. Through hands-on experiences with various art media such as oil pastels, watercolours, and digital apps, students will have the opportunity to discover what excites them and develop a broad spectrum of artistic skills. Our goal is to spark their curiosity and lay a solid foundation for their creative future.

What Will You Study at KS4?

As students progress into Key Stage 4, they will transition into a more independent and personalised learning experience. Building on the concept-driven approach from Key Stage 3, students will have the freedom to choose artists who inspire them and explore themes that resonate with their individual interests. They will delve deep into the purpose and meaning of art, utilising the skills they've acquired to craft personal artist projects. This stage is about self-discovery, self-expression, and the transformation of artistic passion into a tangible and meaningful form.

The Art department at King’s Leadership Academy is a place where every student explores their creative potential, where passion and expression thrive, and where a supportive environment fosters growth and self-confidence. Our vision is not only to teach artistic skills but also to instil a lifelong love for creativity, preparing students to excel in the arts and beyond. We believe that studying art is a transformative experience that empowers students to become curious, expressive, and confident individuals who can positively impact the world around them.
