Michael Garrity

Practitioner of PE

My love for sport, particularly rugby – which I have played to national standard, sparked my passion for teaching physical education. My first achievement in my teaching career was being offered a position at Cowley International College, where I was previously Head Boy and First Team sports’ Captain.

I have recently completed the final part of my four year Secondary Physical Education, Sport and Dance Undergraduate course at Liverpool John Moores University. Throughout the course I was provided with numerous opportunities to develop my knowledge of PE and teaching: putting theory into practice through my placement school experiences. This enabled me to develop my personal teaching philosophy of providing every child with the opportunity to access learning in PE.

Outside of work, I play both rugby league and rugby union. I was a member of the Widnes RUFC team who created a historic quadruple by winning the League, Lancashire Cup, League Cup and North of England Championship at Under 19s and currently play for Widnes RUFC. In rugby league I currently play for Pilkington Recs RLFC in the National Conference League. I also coach on Saturday mornings for Liverpool John Moores University, helping local young football players to develop their skills so that they can progress to local sporting teams.

Sharing King’s core values and leadership ethos, I am looking forward to embarking on my teaching career in this innovative school, where achievement and success for all pupils is the guiding principle of the academy.
