Lucy Batley

Practitioner of Geography

My aspiration to teach is driven by my desire to encourage, guide, challenge and inspire young people. I hope to help them realise their potential, achieve their goals and open their minds to possibilities as my teachers did. I strongly believe in the relevance Geography has in current world issues and I like to emphasise the important links between geography and other academic disciplines, especially in developing transferable skills.

The links between the physical world and the human world fascinate me. The world is ever changing because of these links and it is important that pupils understand this to prepare them for the future. Geography incorporates History, RE, Leadership, Core subjects and can introduce students to subjects such as law, economics and sociology.

I achieved a degree in BA geography from the University of Hull where I participated fully in university life, as a student ambassador and represented Hull University in swimming. After my undergraduate degree I followed my flight path and worked in a high school as a Teaching Assistant before completing a PGCE at Liverpool Hope University. I am always happy to help students after school who are struggling and run a homework club for all year groups in my room.

My ambition at King’s is to deliver the very highest standard of education and opportunities to students as well as encouraging them to take an interest in the world around them.
