Miss S Ainsworth

Teacher of English

.

From the age of early secondary school, I knew I wanted to be an English teacher. I read copious amounts of books and loved cultural excursions such as theatre and museum trips to explore the contextual details behind my favourite pieces of literature. During high school, I completed my work experience in a local primary school and continued this into my A-Level education in which I believed primary school was where I was best suited.

After nine weeks of primary school experience, I was required to spend 30 hours within a secondary school. After one lesson shadowing my own high school teacher, I knew this was where I belonged. I applied to Edge Hill University to complete a Secondary English course in which I experienced two completely juxtaposing placement settings: a PRU under special measures versus an outstanding Grammar school. I believe these two placements offered me a diverse and well-rounded experience of what my future career could look like. Despite seeing the worst of behaviour, this only consolidated my decision to join teaching and to help make a difference to pupil's lives. Every child deserves the opportunity to become their best selves and that only happens with a trusted support network.

Having experienced a wide variety of schools in my time as a cover supervisor and in previous roles at other schools, I feel appropriately challenged and comfortable at King's Leadership Academy where I can be confident that behaviour and distraction will not divert the crucial learning that takes place within my classroom; children will receive the high standard of education they deserve; and each child has the same opportunities.
